“Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash” won top prize at the 74th Locarno Film Festival

Indonesian director Edwin’s “Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash” (Indonesia, Singapore, Germany) won the Golden Leopard at the 74th Locarno Film Festival.

The film was selected one of the 20 projects by Tokyo Gap-Financing Market and the team attended the online meetings with industry professionals last November.

It has also been selected for Contemporary World Cinema section at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and expected to be screened at more film festivals in the future. 

Ajo Kawir is a fighter who fears nothing, not even death. His raging urge to fight is driven by a secret: his impotence. When he crosses paths with a tough female fighter named Iteung, Ajo gets beaten black and blue, but he also falls head over heels in love. Will Ajo’s path lead him to a happy life with Iteung, and, eventually, his own peace of mind?

Edwin: Born in Surabaya, Indonesia, Edwin’s first feature, “Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly” (2008) received the FIPRESCI Prize at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2009; and his short film “Kara, The Daughter of A Tree” (2005) was the first Indonesian film to be shown at the Director’s Fortnight in Cannes 2005. “Postcards from the Zoo” (2012) was nominated for a Golden Bear at the 2012 Berlinale. “VARIABLE:No.3”, one of the episodes of The Asian Three-Fold Mirror project:Journey which was produced by The Japan Foundation Asia Center and Tokyo International Film Festival was directed by Edwin.
